$20.00

These objects are based on traditional Slavic Pysanky eggs, and are made of slipcast ceramic with a wax-resist design written in beeswax using a traditional Kistka tool. The word pysanky comes from the verb pysaty, '“to write” or “to inscribe”. The designs are not painted on, they are written using a small metal funnel that is heated over an open flame and channels molten beeswax onto the egg’s surface to make the design. Pysanky date back to the pre-christian era and were traditionally used to protect the household from evil spirits, catastrophe, lightning and fires as well as to bring fertility, health and blessings to the home throughout the year.
