THIS SERIES IS A 4 WEEK ONLINE CLASS TAUGHT VIA ZOOM

Celtic and Norse Knotwork for Beginners at Celtic Junction in St. Paul

Date/Time: Four Wednesdays in June 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th 6:30-8:00

This class will explore historical origins of Celtic and Norse knot patterns, starting in the Neolithic era with maze and labyrinth stone carvings and moving on to later examples of interlacing and zoomorphic knotwork used to adorn cultural objects over millennia. Symbolism and language embodied in knot and spiral patterns will also be discussed. Participants will learn several ways to draw interlacing knots based on a grid pattern, as well as basic construction of Triskele spirals and an introduction to zoomorphic (animal) elements in knotwork.  Registration details posted on the Celtic Junction website.

Note: Students should bring graph paper, a straight edge ruler and preferred drawing materials (pencils, pens, colored pencils, markers, etc.) If available, a compass/protractor and circle template/french curve tools would also be very useful to have. A PDF packet will be sent prior to the first class to help guide learning.
